Continual Fellowship
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on
religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show
you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting
on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” - Matthew 11:28-30, The Message
Religion can be onerous and overbearing, unfulfilling and hard work. Most religion is linear and time-driven. Often we just know about our God, and we lack a personal relationship. Our experience can be just about following the rules, staying inside the box, and being pleasing and acceptable to a God that we do not know (sounds very heavy and ill-fitting, doesn't it?).
Our God’s plan is and has always been about a living, breathing, free-flowing relationship of continual fellowship and love where we spend time together and where we grow into a deep, abiding love for and communion with each other.
After being with the person whom God uniquely designed for me for more than fifty years now (my wife Fran), and fellowshipping with the person whom God designed for us to be one spirit, often we complete each other’s sentences, we know what each other is thinking before anything is said, we know when each other is sad, or hurting, or just needs a hug. Whether near of far away, our spirits are always in fellowship. We are one.
This kind of deep, intimate knowledge and fellowship is natural and effortless when you love someone and spend great amounts of time with them. The same way, we will begin to know, understand, and have intimate fellowship and communion with our God as we devote our lives to Him and His Kingdom, and as we dedicate time to getting closer to Him.
