Treasure in Heaven
In the Sermon on the Mount recorded in Matthew, beginning in verse 19 of chapter 6, Jesus establishes a profound and fundamental principal for living our lives in time successfully without worry and without stress.
19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be."
-Matthew 6:19, NLT
The information for humanity in these instructions appear as directional and imperative and not as passive or optional. The whole of the sermon is presented as being relational and as the replacement to a religious pursuit without relationship.
Many of the dynamics appear as an alternative and as the correct choice to the directions that those hearing them had received for their elders, their parents, and from religious leaders. These were clearly “His way of doing and being right.”
