Competing and Comparison: Be at Peace With Everyone

Posted by on

Let's begin by looking at Romans 12:10 in a variety of different Bible translations:

10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 12:10 NIV

10 Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Romans 12:10 NLT

10 Be devoted to tenderly loving your fellow believers as members of one family. Try to outdo yourselves in respect and honor of one another.

Romans 12:10 The Passion Translation

10 Love one another with brotherly affection [as members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another.

Romans 12:10, The Amplified Bible (Classic Edition)

Competition and Comparing has resulted in division and very hard, unreconcilable feelings in many relationships. Families being separated and at odds, no communication. Partners and Friends not communicating and not getting along, causing hurt to each other.

Money, politics, and religion are common sources of anxiety and separation. At their root, everything comes back to comparing and competing. We establish a standard that is different than the standard provided for us in our constitution.

Our personal thoughts, our priorities and our preferences become sacred cows that we build huge walls around to protect them.  We can become so right that our relationships can be completely wrong. Something about that does not seem right.

It is not always up to you. There are those who want to hurt and to destroy you for their own advantages or simply because of your differences with them. Engaging some would harm you and your Family. Here is what our Constitution says about that.

18 If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Romans 12:18, Amplified Bible (Classic Edition)

I suppose you do not know what is possible if you do not try. Is it worth a try?
